The Credo of a Business Knight

leave a comment »

"I believe that global business has the money & the power to make a significant difference in today’s troubled world, & that by making that difference it can help itself as well as others.
I envision business raising its sights above the bottom line.
I envisage business becoming a vocation, like the higher professions.
To make this possible I believe that business must add a moral dimension, becoming more service- & value-oriented & largely elimination the assumed natural distinction between private enterprise & public institutions.
I envisage business taking responsibility for the world in which it operates & from which it creates its wealth.
And I envisage myself becoming one of those business leaders who are "servant leaders" — leaders who serve not just stockholders, colleagues, employees, products, & customers, but leaders who also serve the community, the planet, humanity, the future, & life itself."

Admirable work ethic

with 3 comments

In mid March 2012, I read a news entitled “Swiss voters reject 6 weeks paid vacation”.

It is not suprising to me.
More vacation will increase labour costs and risk the economy.

The Swiss has a special place in my life journey.
Being benefactors of parts of my learning experience, I can only be grateful to them.
Though 1 of my former bosses dislikes the Swiss for being self-sufficient, I still have POSITIVE impressions on the Swiss.
I admire your work ethic!

The lesson for me from this event is:
individual freedom comes with responsibility.
To have only freedom is disastrous to oneself.

Swiss Justice Minister Simonetta Sommaruga said taking 2 more weeks of vacation is not the best way to fight stress.
So what is the best way to fight stress?
I love to hear from you my Dear readers.

The fundamental right of a human being: a choice for human dignity

leave a comment »

We do not have the choice on which parents we want to be born into.
Naturally, all parents love their children (this natural law is also obvious in most of animal kingdoms).
Sadly, some parents may be prone to negativity. Getting drunk, gambling, having affairs. Imagine if a father comes back home drunk, whispered by devil advocate to do harm on their children, hits and rapes his daughter.
Do we expect the daugther to suffer in silence? Long-term violences only have two extreme results, she suffers mental breakdown or becomes violent too. A never-ending viscious cycle.
If another man wants to adopt her as a daugther, give her food, shelter, and security, is it wrong for her to choose to leave her biological father and move into the home of the foster father?

I still believe that by nature all fathers are kind and loving towards their children. In the above example, when the biological father is not under the influence of alcohol, he is and can be loving, but he is not stable. The inability to retain stability means that he is still in ignorant state, hence he loses his daughter (irregardless of she staying or leaving). We could only pray and hope for the best.

My analogy applies not only for family institution, but also at larger scales.
